It was our very first NACAR event – we’d never even watched more than a few minutes on TV but had heard/read plenty about the NASCAR ‘culture’. From the moment we arrived until we left, it was clear that special arrangements had been made for our Airstream group. This was our first rally with more 20 Airstreams and it was great!
While we enjoyed the races (especially running back & forth from watching the action on our TV to watching it from the bed of our pickup), it was the time spent with others in the group that mattered the most.
It was great to see so many young Airstreamers and our son Adam had non-stop fun with the other kids.
Once he met some kids his own age, the race became secondary to playing legos, running around and having an overall great time. He did, however, certainly get into the “consumerism” of NASCAR with a new hat, jacket and more – he definitely fit right in! I will never forget the sight of him, and some of the other kids in shadow and surrounded by smoke, dancing with absolute joy with the fireworks going off above their heads. As they say in the MasterCard commercials – priceless!
Sunday eve, we were treated to a sunset cloud formation that looked like a huge Jack-O-Lantern – it was pretty cool along with all the lit paper lanterns floating in the air.
The mass of humanity living in every imaginable mobile housing option – from the palaces of the NASCAR drivers to trailers/motorhomes that I can’t believe could pass any inspection
, it was quite the sight! Seeing it from the air on TV was impressive but much more fun walking around at ground level.
To Leo, Joe and all the others that helped – a huge thank you! Count us in for next year.
